“I was privileged to be in attendance to hear firsthand, the Area 61 Table Topics and International Speech contests at Thomson Reuters on March 17th.
Julie: In the Area 61 Table Topics contest, the question asked was “What did you want to be when you grew up?” It was a perfect question for Julie. A year ago, Julie won the Area 61 International Speech contest with “The Child Inside”. For this year’s Table Topics Area contest, Julie in essence was able to condense “The Child Inside” within the short duration time limit for Table Topics. She did a beautiful job!
Bruce: In the Area 61 International Speech contest, Bruce presented his “Go Beyond” speech. It began with the excitement of exploration and adventure of a baby taking a first step, receiving encouragement to continue and build on those everyday challenges of life at that age. Bruce led us to where we often find ourselves today, of wanting to stay within comfort zones due to fear we want to avoid. Bruce included a renewed, growing relationship with his own father. The speech was developed well, interwoven with stories inspiring us to get out of our comfort zones to “Go Beyond”.
